Jennifer Wallace Warsen of Southampton died at her home on March 22, 2019.
After graduating from Hampton Bays High School with honors in just three years, Ms. Warsen set off to Bolivia as an exchange student for a year before attending the University of Colorado, Boulder, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in anthropology. She then spent a year furthering her education, writing and teaching English in Kobe, Japan, and eventually returned to the United States to take a job at American Health Magazine. She then transitioned into screenwriting and the entertainment business in Los Angeles, and continued writing for the next 25 years.
In 1994, while recuperating from a life threatening surgery, she began researching what would become her life’s work. She published a long-abandoned manuscript written by her Irish great-grandfather, which had been floating around the family for 100 years. The book was called “The Chase of a Shadow,” by Dennis Cronin and was celebrated by the town of Kilcrohane with a memorial monument along the popular “Sheep’s Head Way” hiking trail.
Survivors said she was a wonderful, kind, unbelievably creative person, funny and smart, but, in the end, she was stricken with severe mental illness following her unforeseen brain surgery years earlier.
A service was held on March 30 at the Church of St. Roselie in Hampton Bays.
Memorial donations may be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, nami.org.
