Jerald R. Bolmarcich (“Jerry”), 92, died peacefully at home on Sunday, April 13, 2025, surrounded by family. Born in 1932 in Astoria, Queens, Jerry lived a full, honorable life of service to his country and loved ones. Extraordinarily generous and family-oriented, he cherished his roles of husband, father, grandfather, and brother.

Jerry devoted four years of active service to the United States Navy as a Boatswain’s Mate, rifleman and gunner’s mate aboard ship during the Korean War. He was honored to be a member of the US Naval Ceremonial Guard and US Navy Drill Team at Arlington Cemetery.

Jerry committed 20 years to the NYC Police Department, achieving the esteemed rank of Sergeant, which he held in the highest regards. It was one of his most treasured accomplishments. Jerry’s tenure with the NYCPD provided him with a wealth of memories that he shared fondly and often throughout his life. Upon his retirement, Jerry continued his public service working security for the New York Times, and the Parr Meadows Race Track, as well as a postal worker and shop steward with the U.S. Postal Service.

Known for his sharp sense of humor and flair for storytelling, Jerry was always eager to entertain a captive audience with a joke, tales of times long ago, or an Andrea Bocelli performance he’d discovered on his iPad. As an avid reader with a brilliant mind, Jerry was never without a trivia fact, an endearing recitation of his favorite, The Desiderata, or a point of debate which he shared freely with anyone and everyone. Jerry found great joy in the challenge of his daily crossword, lottery tickets and casino visits, and decades of impressive genealogy research. He proudly reminisced about having single-handedly built his deck, and was a loyal fan of the San Francisco Giants and Golden State Warriors.

Jerald is survived by his adoring, dutiful daughter, Michelle and loving son-in-law, Frank (Mulvey), his three beloved grandchildren: Frankie and his wife, Rachael, Mia, and Madison and her husband, Sam (Millar); and his cherished brothers, Gene and Robert, and their families. He is predeceased by his wife and soulmate of 62 years, Penny, his son, Jerald, Jr., and his daughter-in-law, Tammy.

Jerry’s family was his greatest source of pride and joy. Always present, he often stated, “I wouldn’t miss it for the world.” Jerry was adored by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.

Doing It

Lady bugs are doing very unladylike things. This jewel-like copulation takes place in a small tree. Out on a smooth, green limb, red, glistening bodies, casual soulmates, unhurried by time; the observer loses interest before they do. Spring is mainly the lovemaking act. And while you would not know this, listening to our selected leaders, take a walk and find a yellow butterfly to follow — up with your eye, into canopy and clouds. Find something in nature to follow instead. Snapping turtles are doing it, too. Mud-animated, these animals are unmolested in Sagg Pond — I mean, no one ... by Marilee Foster
