Jessica A. Poulson Schmitt, formerly of Hampton Bays, died on August 5, 2024. She was 76.

She graduated from Hampton Bays High School. After college, she went into the business world and began her career in banking. She worked her way up at Nat West and eventually was transferred to the Netherlands, excelling professionally in international currency trading at ABN/AMRO. She traveled to Thailand and Hong Kong frequently on business for the bank.

Upon her early retirement, she and her husband, Jon, settled in Sarasota, Florida. They traveled extensively together and enjoyed skiing as well as sailing.

She will be greatly missed by the family and friends she enjoyed so much, and to whom she brought so much love and enjoyment, her family said.

She is survived by her husband Jon; her two step-children, Lauren (Chris) and Eric (Amber); six grandchildren; her sister Judy and brother Warren (Christy); a niece and a nephew; two step-nephews; and many cousins. She was predeceased by her mother Anna and her father Omer; as well as both of her brothers-in-law, Robert and Tom.

A service of internment will be held on Friday, May 16, at 11 a.m. at Good Ground Cemetery in Hampton Bays.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Childrens’ Research Hospital (stjude.org).

A Brilliant Light

The village was quiet last Thursday on the morning of a beautiful day, the beginning of many more. People were scattered on benches resting and talking; reading The Press, or rising reluctantly to go about mundane errands. A simple fact about the SALT deductions is being obscured with Nick Lakota’s statements in the news. If the 2017 tax rules expire, residents will once again be able to deduct 100 percent of their state and local taxes. If all New York representatives vote together, the new budget will fail. “Fighting” for a higher limit is unnecessary. Volunteer Ambulance HQ To Be Dedicated During Open House

The Southampton Volunteer Ambulance will hold an open house and dedication ceremony for its new headquarters on Sunday, May 18, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The building is located at 1256 North Sea Road in Southampton. The event will include tours of the state-of-art facility and regional EMS training center.
