Joan M. Dombkowski of Bridgehampton died on July 10. She was 87.
Born on October 29, 1928, she was the daughter of Anna Mae Silvey and William Gerlach, and grew up in Sag Harbor. In 1947 she married Mitchell Dombkowski, who predeceased her in 1999. They had two sons, Mitchell Jr., who predeceased her in 2000, and Bruce.
She worked as a housekeeper for a family in Southampton and a family in Bridgehampton for more than 30 years. Her employers were very fond of her and thought of her as family; they remained in touch until she died, survivors said.
She enjoyed doing needlepoint and word search puzzles, and was a member of the Red Hat Society for a short time. She also enjoyed watching her “stories” on television.
She is survived by a son, Bruce; daughter-in-law, Joanne; and two grandsons, Nicholas and Joseph.
Visitation was on July 14 at O’Connell Funeral Home in Southampton. A funeral Mass was held on July 15 at the Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church in Bridgehampton. Interment was at the Sacred Hearts Cemetery in Southampton.
