Joan Pavlak
Joan Rose Pavlak of St. Petersburg, Florida, formerly of Speonk, died Friday, November 18, after a long battle with lung cancer. She was 70.
The first child of Franklin and Kathryn Petersen, she was raised in Quogue and graduated from Westhampton Beach High School. She worked briefly in New York City before getting married. Later she worked at Sexton’s Department Store in Westhampton Beach. She also managed the Quogue Luncheonette for a year. In 1987, she relocated to Florida, first to Orlando and later to St. Petersburg.
Her family and friends will remember her competitive spirit with Scrabble as she was able to best them all with strategic word plays. She had a flair for design and was a handcraft enthusiast decorating her home with her creations.
Ms. Pavlak is survived by a sister, Jeanne Duenn of Quogue; children, Katherine Kraner of California, Susan Borsella, Aimee Lunden and Eric of Massachusetts and Edmund “Joe” of Eastport; and 10 grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for next year.
