Joan Pritchard Platt

author on Jul 14, 2008

Joan Pritchard Platt, formerly of Southampton, died at her home in Naples, Florida, on July 8 after a long illness. She was 62.

Born in Manhattan on April 30, 1946, to Ella (née Brookbank) and John Pritchard, she lived with her family in Merrick before moving to Sag Harbor when she was in eighth grade.

After graduating from the Academy of the Sacred Heart of Mary, she attended Roosevelt Hospital School of Nursing and became a registered nurse. She then returned to Sag Harbor and began working at Southampton
Hospital where, in 1967, she cared for Johanna Guldi, her future husband’s grandmother. She subsequently met and, in 1970, married Harold K. Platt. After living in Manhattan for a year while Mr. Platt completed law school, the couple then moved to Southampton and she continued working at Southampton Hospital until failing health forced her to retire in 2001, after 34 years of service. The Platts moved to Florida in December 2003.

She is survived by her husband, Harold Platt of Florida; a son and his wife, Timothy and Mina Platt, and a granddaughter, Laura Platt, all of Southampton; and many nephews, nieces and in-laws.

The family received visitors on July 13 at the O’Connell Funeral Home in Southampton. A funeral service was held on July 14 also at O’Connell. Cremation followed.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or East End Hospice, P.O. Box 1048, Westhampton Beach, NY 11978-7048 would be appreciated by the
family.

But he agreed, because his story is so important — and can help so many others — because he needs a donor kidney. He’s not alone: There are some 100,000 people in the United States alone who need life-saving organ donations. It’s testament to modern ... 4 Jun 2025 by Editorial Board

Nearby are The National, which dates to 1911, and Shinnecock Hills, founded in 1891, the celebrity courses that every golfer knows and dreams of playing.
