John Chadwick Griffith of Quogue died peacefully on August 11. He was 93.
Mr. Griffith graduated from Dartmouth College and went on to study economics at Princeton University. He was a foreign service officer at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C. Mr. Griffith served overseas at the U.S. Embassy in Bern, Switzerland, the U.S. Consulate General in Bombay, India, and the U.S. Embassy in Oslo, Norway. He was the economic counselor while serving in India and Norway. In addition, Mr. Griffith was the desk officer for Canada, England, the Caribbean, and the United Nations.
Upon his retirement from the Department of State, Mr. Griffith moved to Quogue, where he worked as the building and zoning administrator for the Village of Quogue for several years. He was also chairman of buildings and grounds at the Church of the Atonement for over 30 years.
Mr. Griffith is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jane; children Sandra Clinton Griffith, John Chadwick Griffith Jr. (Michiko), Ann Griffith O’Connor; and four grandchildren, Shena, Brooks, Zephyr, and Sky.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 19, at the Church of the Atonement in Quogue at 11 a.m.
