John F. Buckley
John F. Buckley, a retired New York City firefighter and the original owner of Buckley’s Irish Pub in Southampton, died on February 23. He was 74.
Mr. Buckley, who lived in Center Moriches, owned the Jobs Lane establishment before passing over the reins to his daughter Theresa and her husband James Cantwell, both of whom had worked at the pub for years. The two opened Buckley’s Inn Between in Hampton Bays in 2002 and in 2007 closed the original Buckley’s Irish Pub in Southampton, after 21 years of business.
Mr. Buckley is survived by two sons, John and Joseph; four daughters, Patricia Haling, Theresa Cantwell, Joanne Slater and Bernadette Constantine; two brothers, Paul and Michael; and 13 grandchildren.
Visitation was held Thursday and Friday, February 24 and 25, at Sinnicksons Funeral Home in Center Moriches. A funeral Mass was held on Saturday, February 26, at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Center Moriches. Interment followed at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, also in Center Moriches.
