John F. “Jack” Rogers Jr. of East Quogue and New York died on April 29. He was 92.
He was born in the Bronx on October 23, 1931, the son of Katherine and John F. Rogers Sr.
He and Regis Philbin were classmates at Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx, graduating in 1949. He was also a proud graduate of Iona College in New Rochelle in 1953, and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. Afterwards, he embarked on a lifelong career in the hosiery business and his friends nicknamed him “Socks” as a result.
A confirmed bachelor, he enjoyed playing tennis, skiing, winter weekends in Sugarbush, Vermont, and spending time at his house in East Quogue and at the Sandbar Beach Club.
He was predeceased by his brother Jim. He is survived by six nieces and nephews; his cousins, Mary Ann Fitzgibbon of New York, Joan Fitzgibbon of New York, Margaret Watson (Drew) of Southampton and Ridgewood, New Jersey, their son Andrew (Jenn Tinnelly) and their two granddaughters Riley and Nell of Wilton, Connecticut, and Dolores Manning of East Harwich, Massachusetts.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on May 6 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New York. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery in Queens.
