John Francis Sullivan died at his Southampton home on May 23, with his family at his side. He was 88.
Born in Orange, New Jersey, on November 26, 1927, to Margaret Dwyer and John Sullivan, he earned a bachelor’s degree from Notre Dame in 1950 and a master’s in business administration from New York University in 1959. He was a founding partner at Faulkner Dawkins & Sullivan, a small boutique brokerage firm that later merged with Shearson Hayden Stone and then American Express. In 1978, he founded Sullivan Morrissey and Mickle, where he served as chairman until his death.
He had a daughter, Lisa, with his first wife, Joy Karn.
A devoted lifelong golfer, he was a member of Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, Deepdale and Lost Tree golf clubs. He was also a member of the Southampton Bathing Corporation and The Meadow Club, a reflection of his true love of Southampton, survivors said.
Mr. Sullivan is survived by his wife of 26 years, Gladys; a daughter, Lisa Sullivan Crawford and husband Philip; grandchildren John and Kingsley Crawford; a stepson, Edward Neuburg and wife Lilliana; Julia McCormack, Ms. Crawford’s sister; and Dianne Kelly, his assistant of 33 years.
Burial will be private. A memorial service will take place this summer in Southampton.
Memorial donations may be made to the Hypertension Research Fund at New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell, 424 East 70th Street, New York, NY 10021.
