John J. Power
John J. Power of Sag Harbor died on November 28 at his home. He was 83.
Born December 24, 1926, in Yonkers, to Norah (née O’Connor) and John Power, he pursued a career with the New York Police Department, retiring as lieutenant commander of the major case squad. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the NYPD Emerald Society, and the NYPD Lieutenants Benevolent Association.
Mr. Power graduated from St. Ann’s Academy and lived in Little Neck, New York before moving to Sag Harbor 27 years ago.
He is survived by two daughters, Dianne and her husband Chris Jamison of North Great River, and Carolyn and her husband John Kirrane of Rockville Center; a son, Jack Power and his wife Yao Hong of Little Neck; a sister Margaret Ahearn of New York; and a brother, James Power of New Jersey; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family received visitors on November 30 at Yardley & Pino Funeral Home in Sag Harbor. A funeral mass was held on December 1 at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Church in Sag Harbor. Interment followed at Calverton National Cemetery.
