John L. Damiecki of Bridgehampton and Boca Raton, Florida, died on January 26, from complications of pneumonia, in West Palm Beach, Florida, with hs nephews at his bedside. He was 90.
Mr. Damiecki was born to Helena and Marcel Damiecki on February 20, 1926 in Bridgehampton, and was an icon in the potato farming business on the East End of Long Island, known for his many land holdings in the area. Survivors said, many remember him for his rich storytelling and many jokes.
He was a member of the Holy Trinity Church in East Hampton where he served as an usher. He was a member of the Bridgehampton Fire Department, an honorary member of the Springs Fire Department, and a member of the Elks Lodge and the Long Island Farm Bureau.
Mr. Damiecki is survived by a son, Marcel Damiecki; a daughter, Susan Kosowski; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his sisters, Stephanie Pfeiffer and Marcella De Muth Gintowt; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Sophie Kosinski, Jay Skretch, Lois Beck; his brother, Edward Damiecki; and former wife, Anna Danowksi.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, June 10, at 10:30 a.m. at Most Holy Trinity Church in East Hampton.
