John Salvatore Distefano of Southampton died on February 9 at his home in North Sea. He was 67.
Mr. Distefano was born in Southampton to Salvatore Distefano and Evelyn Renkens on February 4, 1954.
He attended Southampton High School and went on to join the United States Navy, serving as a chef aboard a nuclear submarine out of Groton, Connecticut.
He ran a trucking and distribution business prior to establishing a modular home business out of Southampton. Mr. Distefano was known for his strong work ethic, great sense of humor and many catch-phrases. He loved to see new places and was happiest when on the road behind the wheel of a truck, according to his family. Mr. Distefano also recently rekindled an interest in modified stock car racing, racing in the Long Island Vintage Auto Racing Series in Riverhead.
Mr. Distefano is survived by this current wife, Nuriyanti; and his children from his previous marriages, including Dana Distefano (Chris), Andrew Distefano (Mary), Nikki Distefano, Carolann Doncourt (Nick), Darrin Miller (Katora) and Anthony Cobb-Hubbard. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Bodhi and Zofia Czarske, Myla and Charlotte Distefano, Landon and Lucas Longnecker, and Autumn and Tatumn Miller. He was predeceased by his father Salvatore Distefano, mother Evelyn Honnett, stepfather Thomas Honnett and brother Paul Distefano.
Visitation and services for Mr. Distefano were held at Brockett Funeral Home on Sunday, February 14. Burial with military honors was held at Calverton National Cemetery the following day.
