John Vagianos Sr. of Southampton died on July 25 at home. He was 84.
He was born in Brooklyn on November 26, 1940, to Nick and Rosemary Vagianos. He and his brother, Steve, were twins — the second eldest brothers of nine children — and the first of three sets of twins in the family, who settled in Hampton Bays in the early 1950s.
He attended Southampton High School and played on the football team, then went on to serve his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. Upon his return, he attended technical college, followed by a long career of over 30 years at ConEdison in Manhattan.
After raising their children in Brooklyn, he and his wife Crisanna, split their time between Southampton and Palm Beach, Florida. Together, they were active in the community of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church of the Hamptons.
He called Southampton “paradise” and he loved to wake up early and drive to the beach to read the morning paper there with a cup of coffee.
He is survived by his wife, Crisanna; his daughter Irene and her husband, Martin, and his daughters, Maggie and Chloe; and his son, John and his wife Shobha, and their son John (the 3rd) and daughter Ariana.
Services will be held on Saturday, August 2, at 11 a.m. at Dormition Greek Orthodox Church of the Hamptons at 111 St. Andrews Road, Southampton, NY. Memorial donations can be made to Dormition Greek Orthodox Church of the Hamptons (dormitionhamptons.org) and East End Hospice (eeh.org).
