Joseph M. Smith Of Flanders Dies September 23

Joseph M. Smith

Joseph M. Smith of Flanders died on September 23 at Peconic Bay Medical Center. He was 49.

He was born on November 10, 1962 in Southampton, and he graduated from Shoreham-Wading River High School in 1981. He served in the United States Airforce from 1982 to 1993. Among his interests were motorcycles, softball and baseball. He was a devoted Flanders Little League coach.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Laura (née Spano); his mother, Josephine Engelbosch; a son, Michael; and two brothers, Andrew and Michael. He was predeceased by two brothers, James and Paul; his father, James, and stepfather John Engelbosch.

The family gathered at the McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead on September 27. Interment of ashes was private.

Memorial donations may be made to the Flanders Little League.
