Joyce M. Griffith of Sag Harbor dies at 78

Joyce M. Griffith, a resident of Sag Harbor for 15 years, died on January 13 at the Westhampton Care Center. She was 78.

Born October 1, 1931, in Yonkers to Alexander McIlroy and Ina (née Waugh) McIlroy, she graduated from Gorton High School in Yonkers and attended Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in New York City.

A member of the Order of the Eastern Star, she served on the North Haven Architectural Review Board and as deacon of Old Whalers’ First Presbyterian Church in Sag Harbor.

She is survived by her husband, Howard Griffith of Sag Harbor; two sons, Glenn A. Griffith of Sag Harbor and Jim H. Griffith of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn; and a granddaughter, Alison Savage of Hartsdale.

The family received visitors on January 15 at Yardley & Pino Funeral Home in Sag Harbor. A funeral service was held on January 16 at Old Whalers’ First Presbyterian Church in Sag Harbor, followed by interment at Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, New York.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Old Whalers’ First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 1241, Sag Harbor, NY 11963 would be appreciated by the family.
