Just Duckie

The Hampton Bays Civic Association held the 11th annual Family Fun Day and Rubber Duckie Race on September 10. Beautiful weather and a wonderful group of volunteers, donors and “duck owners” created a memorable event.

Thank you to the multi-tasking HBCA members Janice Landis, Bonnie Doyle, Bob Ricke, John Capone, Scott Bolster, and our live duck, Sean Deery.

A big thank you to Quogue Wildlife Refuge, who brought their bearded dragon for youngsters to learn about, and also to Cornell Cooperative Extension, who brought their touch tank filled with sea creatures for youngsters to touch and learn about.

Thank you also to Mary Garcia and her assistant, Aitana Garcia, for their face painting of so many adorable faces, and to Alan Rubinstein, our magician, who kept all entertained for hours.

A gold star thank you to sponsor Canoe Place Inn by Rechler Equity and also for the support of Metro Physical Therapy.

O’Shea Funeral Home offered vital support for our Year of Fine Dining Raffle, joining the restaurants that generously donated the grand prize: Southampton Publick House, La Parmigiana, Edgewater, BOA Thai Fusion, Sundays on the Bay, Oakland’s, Salvatore’s, One North Steakhouse, Out of the Blue, Villa Paul, Matsulin and Buckley’s Inn Between.

Sincere thanks to contributors to the silent auction: Angel Tips, E Day Spa, Epic Spa & Nails, Canal Café, The Local Bike Shop, Cowfish, Good Ground Antiques, Hampton Auto Wash, Hampton Nursery, King Kullen, La Carezza, Farm Country Kitchen, Digger’s Ales & Eats, Scotto’s, The Hamlet, Fowler’s Garden Center, Hampton Maid, Edward Archer, Salon East, Rumba, Skidmore Sports, Mario’s Barber Shop, James Maguire Antiques, Hampton Gyro, Hampton Bays Bagels, Panera Bread, Matsulin, Stop & Shop, New Moon Café, Fandango, Good Ground Cleaners, Briefer Farms, and Janice and Steve Landis.

Ocean racing ducks require special ballast: thank you to J.J. (Johnathan Lorber) for duckie race prep. Thank you, duckie owners/trainers, and fabulous duckie decorators.

The Hampton Bays Chamber of Commerce duck was voted No. 1, Kathy Jayne’s Queen Elizabeth duck was second, and Ryland Clemensen’s Gray Shark was third.

Congratulations to duckie race winners: win, Alice Boahirunya; place, Village Auto Body; show, Rapid Recovery.

And a special thank you to the “starting gate” Rumba launch crew, the Hampton Bays High School volunteers and Captain Bob, and the duckie wranglers, dealing with difficult winds and tides: Johnathan Lorber, Alexa Foudy, Bonnie Doyle and Sean Deery.

Again, a particular thank you to Jorie Cohen and the staff at Cowfish for the perfect venue and the exceptional service. And a very special thank you to all who watched and supported our event.

See you next year!
