Justin Terzi of Sag Harbor died of heart failure on May 2 at his home in Sag Harbor. He was 59.

He was born on August 7, 1961 to Giustino Terzi Jr. and Paula Monte.

Mr. Terzi was of Italian descent and came into this world a visionary and creator of art. His formal education began at Columbus School of Art on a scholarship when he was 16 years old. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology and his Master of Science degree from Columbia University.

Mr. Terzi made this world a more beautiful place with his sense of style and design. He created elaborate sets for post modern dance, such as Stephen Petronio Dance Co. NYC and the Frankfurt Ballet; designed for Swid Powell China with his cypress garden patterns (HC&G); was an assistant art director for a Whitney Huston music video; and worked for Tommy Hilfiger, Limited and Victoria’s Secret, coining the phrase “Think Pink” for Christmas.

At the age 39, he decided to go back to receive his master’s from Columbia University and then started his company as a landscape designer in the Hamptons and brought his cypress gardens to life. His expansive gardens of fairytale and wonder can be seen all over the Hamptons and in numerous magazines (Galerie, HC&G).

Mr. Terzi will be remembered by his friends and family for his dry wit, love of an eccentric life to beach bum days in the Hamptons and his knowledge of culture, fine art, foods and travel.

He is survived by his father, Giustino Terzi Jr.; sister Bobbi Terzi; brother Joseph Terzi; nephew Zak Bamberger; nephew Luciano Bagan; niece Daniela Bagan; and nephew Dereck Terzi. Mr. Terzi was proceeded by his sister Lucia Terzi Bagan; his mother Paula Monte; and step-mother Barbara Terzi.

A memorial service will be held at St. Ann’s Episcopal Church in Bridgehampton on Wednesday, May 26, at 11 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made at www.Lucias Angels.org/Justin or by mail: 10 Oak Street, Southampton, NY 11968.
