Katherine Schiffman, a resident of Hampton Bays for 50 years, died on February 1, 2017. She was 86.
Mrs. Schiffman grew up in Queens, the daughter of the late William Mooney and Lillian Richter, and graduated in 1949 from John Adams High School in Ozone Park. Among her passions were baking and cooking for her family, as well as refinishing antique furniture. Along with her family, she owned and operated the Hampton Bays Roller Rink from 1979 to 1984. Survivors said she loved to walk on the beach, and living near the ocean always made her happiest; she could never picture herself living anywhere but Hampton Bays.
She was predeceased by her brothers, William Mooney and Joseph Mooney. She is survived by her husband, Allen Schiffman; children, Robert Schiffman, David Schiffman and wife Denise; a sister, Meryl Bishoff; and her grandchildren ,Blakeley, Michael and Daphne.
Visitation was held on February 3, and a funeral service on February 4, at the Scott Funeral Home in Hampton Bays. Burial followed at Good Ground Cemetery in Hampton Bays.
