Kathleen M. Gang

Kathleen M. Gang, a longtime resident of Southampton, died at her home after a long illness on Sunday, March 11. She was 66.

Born on September 19, 1945, in Queens, she was the youngest daughter of Henry and Marie Koster. She attended Our Lady of Mercy High School in Syosset and Regis College in Boston.

She was married to John Gang in January, 1965 and they moved to Southampton with their daughter in 1967. Ms. Gang was a homemaker until 1979 when they opened a small garden store called The Fickle Pickle. Often stating that she couldn’t keep a cactus alive, she became a very skilled gardener—more recently enjoying her own vegetable and herb gardens at home.

Employed by James R. McLauchlen Realty in 1985, she earned her certification in real estate appraisal and worked for Hamptons Appraisal Service for 25 years. After retiring in 2010, she enjoyed traveling with friends and family. She had played bridge in her earlier years but recently mastered mahjong with some of her closest friends. She liked to spend time working on puzzles. During her illness, there was always a puzzle set up at the house for everyone to work on when they were visiting.

Ms. Gang always had a kind word, a soft shoulder, a great sense of humor and often, a couch to crash on, survivors said. She will be dearly missed by many friends and family.

She is survived by her children, Kelly and John, both of Southampton, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband John in 2003; her sister, Roberta Koster in 2002; her sister Eileen Breen, in 2008; and step-brother Robert Howard in December 2011.

A funeral was held Wednesday, March 14. A memorial service for both Kathy and her husband John will follow in early summer.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
