Kathleen T. Smith of Hampton Bays died at her home on Wednesday, June 11. She was 85.

Born in Ireland, Ms. Smith worked in the opinion department of the New York State Supreme Court Appellate Division.

She was a member of St. Rosalie’s Roman Catholic Church, and a volunteer for the Dominican Sisters Family Health Service, both in Hampton Bays.

Mrs. Smith is survived by three daughters, Kathy Smith, Colleen Clemensen and her husband Lars, and Barbara McGarr and her husband Edward; a son, James Smith and his wife Kathy; two sisters, Mary Hurley and Frances Quigley; and seven grandchildren, Lars, Erik and Caitlin Clemensen, Kelin Smith, and Meghan, Kevin and Brian McGarr.

She was predeceased by her husband, James F. Smith.

A parish prayer service was held on June 13 at the R.J. O’Shea
Funeral Home in Hampton Bays. A funeral mass was held on June 14 at St. Rosalie’s Church in Hampton Bays; interment followed at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York.

Nod to the Past

In deciding to run for reelection as village trustee, I have thought a great deal about what I, as a trustee, have done and can continue to do to preserve and nurture the qualities that make Southampton Village such a special place to live. Refuse Surprises

The Noyac Civic Council once again is proud to have many volunteers join in the Great East End Clean-Up. This year, we had a few different surprises as we picked up the usual trash along Noyac Road. New Jersey Man Arrested After Woman Claims He Set Up a Spy Camera in Bathroom

A New Jersey man was arrested by Southampton Town Police over the weekend and charged with unlawful surveillance after a woman told police she suspected that he had used a remote camera to watch her in the bathroom. The woman, who police have not identified other than to say she is from Indiana, called police on May 3 and reported that she was staying at an Airbnb house in Water Mill for the weekend with several co-workers.
