Key To Composting

It is important for all residents to understand that a community composting program’s success is dependent on the participation of all restaurants, organizations or businesses that produce food scraps, in addition to individual households. With reusable containers, together they can reduce garbage in landfills by an astounding amount and produce rich soil for multiple uses.

For example, New York City runs one of the city’s biggest community composting operations on a formerly abandoned strip of land under the Queensboro Bridge. All the compost goes to the New York City Parks Department.

The time has come to pilot alternatives that reduce the methane and carbon dioxide emissions released from incinerators and buried refuse. Support community composting!
