L.A. Bek
L.A. Bek of Massachusetts, Florida and formerly of Quogue died at his home in Florida with his wife Giri by his side on Saturday, July 30. He was 59.
Born July 12, 1952, to Sol and Gertie Bek, he grew up in Brooklyn and was a graduate of Queens College. Known to friends and family simply as “Bek,” he built a thriving career in real estate sales and development, focusing on properties in the Hamptons, the Berkshires, upstate New York, and West Palm Beach, Florida — all areas where he spent time enjoying life with his family and friends. A quintessential entrepreneur, Mr. Bek always dreamt big and was gifted at bringing his ideas to fruition. One of his greatest endeavors was the creation of the Otis Ridge Holistic Camp for Martial Arts, where his children and countless others spent their summer months immersed in martial arts, yoga, and holistic living. He raised his children in East Quogue and owned many small hotels in the Hamptons.
Mr. Bek loved leading a healthy, active lifestyle and spending time outdoors. He enjoyed swimming and exercising daily, practicing yoga, meditation, and martial arts, following a healthy diet, and spending time at the beach and in the mountains.
He showed tremendous courage, grace, and gratitude throughout his eight-month struggle with colon cancer. Mr. Bek will be remembered for his remarkable generosity, boundless energy, optimism, thoughtfulness, and beautiful spirit, family said.
He is survived by his wife Giri; children, Shawn, Faith, Jake, and Alee; and his brother Ronnie.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 28, in the Catskill Mountains. Those interested in attending may contact his wife at (413) 961-9080.
Memorial donations may be made to Sivananda Ashram Yoga Ranch, 500 Budd Road, Woodbourne, NY 12788, or www.sivananda.org.
