Laura (Arch) Mayo of Westhampton Beach died on January 6 at Stony Brook University Hospital. She was 82.
Ms. Mayo was the daughter of Walker Arch and Carrie Bess Arch. She was a tribal member of the Shinnecock Nation, the niece of Chief Thunder Bird, Henry F. Bess, and loved the annual powwow.
Ms. Mayo was an active member of the local congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses for more than 61 years. She worked for a number of years as a monitor in the Westhampton Beach schools and she was a family day care provider for several decades, providing care for scores of children.
She is survived by three daughters, Carole, Ellen and Rachel; a brother, Arthur Arch and wife Martha Ann; a sister, Gloria Arch; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, William; a son, Donald; a brother, Walker Arch; and a sister, Doris Arch.
The family received friends at the Eastport Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on January 11.
