Lawrence J. Dupree Jr. of Hampton Bays died on Wednesday, December 10. He was 67.
After high school graduation in Dobbs Ferry, Mr. Dupree attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and was a member of the Corps of Cadets. After attending the school for two years, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served for four years in Germany at Hahn Air Force Base. After returning to the United States, he completed his education at Manhattan College, earning a degree in accounting.
He spent summers in Hampton Bays as a child, and in 1979, moved his own family from Rockland County to Hampton Bays so his children could enjoy many of the same things he did growing up.
Mr. Dupree owned three boats over the years, “Tiburon” and “Ellie-Sue” and more recently fished off the “Tips Up.” He was also an avid stamp collector and worked as a self-employed accountant, as well as for John Charde CPA in Southampton during the 1980s.
A wake and visitation were held at the R.J. O’Shea Funeral Home in Hampton Bays on December 13 and 14. A funeral service conducted by Monsignor Edmund Trench was held at St. Rosalie’s Roman Catholic Church in Hampton Bays on December 15; interment followed at Calverton National Cemetery.
