Lawrence L. Hawes dies at 84

Lawrence L. Hawes

Lawrence L. Hawes, a former resident of Eastport and more recently of Ellenton, Florida died at home on April 23. He was 84.

Mr. Hawes worked as a detective in Suffolk County for several years before his retirement.

He served in the Navy Air Corps during World War II with much of his military career based in the Philippines. In addition, family members recently recalled him as someone who loved to fly; he was a pilot instructor for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mildred Hawes of Florida; four daughters, Jacquie Paskiewicz and her husband Steve of Baiting Hollow; Judy Broek and her husband Dick of Michigan; Janet Nerger and her husband Steve of Massachusetts; and Joanne Lindsay of Florida; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on May 9, at 2 p.m. at the Palma Sola Community Church in Florida.
