For National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday, September 17, the League of Women Voters of the Hamptons, Shelter Island and North Fork will spread out across the East End with voter information tables in communities from Westhampton to Montauk on the South Fork and on Shelter Island. Representatives will also be at HarborFest in Sag Harbor on September 14 and 15 and at Southampton Town’s Anti-Bias Task Force Picnic on September 15. The League will distribute voter registration forms and absentee ballot applications; information on the four ballot referenda; flyers with the Suffolk County early voting dates/sites/times on Saturday, October 26, through Sunday, November 3, and other information such as the Directory of Public Officials.
The League tables on September 17 will be at the Montauk Post Office, 2 to 4 p.m.; East Hampton Post Office, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Springs One Stop Market, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Bridgehampton Post Office, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Sag Harbor’s Schiavoni’s Market, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Rogers Memorial Library, 3 to 5 p.m.; Southampton Stop & Shop, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.; Hampton Bays Dollar Store, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Westhampton Free Library, 2 to 5 p.m.; and at the Shelter Island Library, 2:30 to 4 p.m.
The Suffolk County Board of Elections mail-in deadline for receipt of voter registration forms is October 26. The mail-in or online deadline for the Board of Elections to receive an absentee ballot application or early mail-in voting application is also October 26, while the postmark deadline for the return of the absentee ballot to the poll site or by mail to the Board of Elections is Election Day, November 5.
Note that those voters who are issued an absentee ballot or early mail ballot may no longer vote in person on a voting machine during early voting or on Election Day and may only vote by affidavit ballot at a poll site.
Voter registration forms are available online by going to the New York State Board of Elections website at elections.ny.gov.
For East Hampton Town residents, the early voting site from October 26 to November 3 will be Windmill Village, 219 Accabonac Road, Community Room 2. For Southampton Town residents, the site is at Stony Brook Southampton University campus on Tuckahoe Road. Shelter Island Town’s early voting site is at the Shelter Island Youth Recreation Center, 1 Bateman Road.
Suffolk County registered voters may vote at any of the early voting sites in Suffolk County, not only the location in their town.
The League will also host three virtual candidate debates on SEA-TV’s YouTube channel: Monday, October 7, 7 to 8 p.m. for the 1st Assembly District candidates; Monday, October 21, 6 to 7 p.m. for the 1st Senatorial District; and Monday, October 21, 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. for 1st Congressional District.
