Behind the Scenes of Stranding Response with AMSEAS
The Quogue Wildlife Refuge will be offering a behind-the-scenes look at an Atlantic Marine Conservation Society stranding response in a lecture on Saturday, March 2, at 2 p.m. The refuge is located at 3 Old Country Road in Quogue.
Atlantic Marine Conservation Society biologists will provide participants with an inside look at AMSEAS’s Stranding Investigations Program. Presenters will define a stranding, discuss why marine mammals and sea turtles strand, and the required gear to properly respond to a stranded animal. They will share what they have learned from these strandings over the years and how they are trying to improve the marine environment for all of its inhabitants. By the end of the lecture, participants will understand the proper steps to take if they should ever come across a stranded marine mammal or sea turtle.
