Sag Harbor native Leatrice Schiavoni Sherry died at her home in Saint Petersburg, Florida, on November 12. She was 73.
Born to Angelo and Constance Schiavoni, “Lea” as she was known, was a graduate of Pierson High School, where she fell in love, according to the family, with sailor Joe Sherry. The two married and throughout Mr. Sherry’s 20-plus years in the U.S. Navy, they traveled the world and embarked on many adventures. Finally, they settled down in their hometown of Sag Harbor to raise a family.
Noting that she was a devout Catholic, loving spouse and mother, survivors said last week that she was a good, kind-hearted friend and will be missed by all.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Sherry of Florida; a daughter, Ann Sherry of Hampton Bays; and three sons, Matthew Sherry of Amagansett, Jon Sherry of Huntington and Thomas Sherry of Florida.
Two brothers, John Schiavoni and Steven Schiavoni, predeceased her.
Prayer services were held on November 16 at Yardley & Pino Funeral Home in Sag Harbor. A funeral mass was held on November 17 at St. Andrew’s Church in Sag Harbor; interment followed in the church cemetery.
