Leland Rose Smith of Bridgehampton died on July 13, under East End Hospice Care. He was 95.

Smith was born and raised in Bridgehampton and attended Bridgehampton High School, at which he was a member of the basketball team,

He was married to Marion Holder, the love of his life, from Sag Harbor, for 67 years. She died six years ago due to complications from Parkinson’s disease.

Smith started out as a farmer, then began the General Roofing and Siding Company, which was well known on the East End for over 40 years. He was president of Bridgehampton Lions Club in his early years. He enjoyed golfing at the Southampton Golf Club, traveling, being out in nature, and spending time with his family. He was a wonderful father and will be deeply missed, his family said.

His philanthropic contributions consisted of support of many local causes, as well as Doctors without Borders, Parkinson’s Disease, and Smile Train.

He is survived by his three children, J. Barry Smith, Darrah Yates, of Colorado, and Rhonda Hessner of Maryland; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was laid to rest in a private ceremony at Hayground Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to any of his charities would be appreciated.
