Leland Young Of Hampton Bays Dies December 30

Leland Young

Leland Young, known to many as “Pat,” of Hampton Bays died at his home on December 30. He was 89.

Mr. Young was a senior master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force at the time of his retirement, with his last station of service at the Westhampton Air Base. He was a prisoner of war during World War II. He was a member of the Hand Aldrich American Legion Post 924.

Mr. Young was predeceased by his wife Mary C. (née Lenhart). He is survived by a son, Dennis P. Young and his wife Barbara of Hampton Bays; a daughter, Suzanne M. Smith and her husband David of Hampton Bays; and a daughter-in-law, Joanne. He is survived by eight grandchildren, Lindsay Werkheiser, Laura Osofsky, Faith, Charity and Johnny Miller, Will and J.R. Figuerora and Marilyn P. Scherbundy; and nine great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Alexander Osofsky, Angeline Miller, Nicole and Kelsey Copenhagen, and Isabella, Robert, Silas and David Scherbundy. He was predeceased by a son, Richard L. Young.

American Legion services were held at the J. Ronald Scott Funeral Home in Hampton Bays on January 1, preceded by a parish prayer service earlier in the day. A funeral Mass was held at the Church of St. Rosalie on January 2; interment followed at Calverton National Cemetery with military honors.

SOUTHAMPTON VILLAGE — A New Jersey man was charged with assault following a road rage incident on June 30 following a motor vehicle accident on Hill Street.
