On August 19, I received an email from Congressman Nick LaLota titled “Long Island Needs More SALT.” While clumsily worded, he went on to say that the federal deduction for state and local taxes needs to be restored.
In 2017, when Donald Trump was president, he gave the wealthiest Americans and corporations a huge tax cut. In part, he paid for it by severely reducing the deduction for state and local taxes. Trump and the Republican Congress knew that this change would disproportionately impact New York. They wanted to punish the big, bad “blue state” that overwhelmingly (by a huge 22.5 percent margin) rejected Trump and voted for Hillary Clinton.
Nick LaLota is a loyal acolyte of Donald Trump. He slavishly supports all things Trump and MAGA. So, with all his insider connections to Trump and MAGA, why can’t he deliver on SALT for his constituents here on Long Island?
I think that he is full of baloney.
We need less baloney and more results.
His Democratic opponent, John Avlon, actually will deliver real results for Long Island.
