Less Bling

“Thousands of tradesmen and dozens of supply yards exist here for the purpose of keeping the East End what it is known for — and that isn’t prefab houses” [“An Advertisement?” Letters, March 28].

Let’s amend that to reality.

The East End is known for housing so unaffordable that young, old, essential workers — mostly any who are not members of financial industries, lawyers, trust funds, movie stars, etc., with high six-figure incomes — cannot afford to buy much less build a home. They can’t even afford to rent.

Perhaps it’s time that the excessive influence of the building trades and the Realtors on the economy is moderated. Less bling. More function. More equality of access to a necessity: housing. Less la-di-Hamptons attitude.
