How encouraging it was to see both sides of the political divide coming together in Southampton Village on Saturday. Led by young Mayor Jesse Warren and doctors from Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, free masks were being handed out to anyone who wished to take one. No politics, no pressure … just quiet, common concern for our fellow residents.
We owe so much to the doctors and staff at our hospital. Selfless, caring and compassionate, they dealt with an onslaught. If all they ask in return is for us to wear masks to avoid another spike, who am I to say no?
It seems that Southampton Town Police are enforcing phase three reopening conditions, while Southampton Village Police are deliberately not enforcing them. Why is that?
Come on, guys. We’re in this together and it won’t be for long. This isn’t about politics, it’s about concern for our local residents and our health professionals. You’re letting the side down.
Our community deserves better policing than this.
