Lilla B. Shattuck of Hampton Bays died on December 4, 2017, the day after her 98th birthday.
Born in Springfield, Ohio, she attended nursing school in Toledo, Ohio, and was an Army nurse during World War II. She was a registered nurse at Southampton Hospital for more than 40 years and she especially loved and cared for children and babies, survivors said.
She was predeceased by her husband Paul A. Behrmann, who died in 1967.
In 1969 she married Lewis B. Shattuck and they were married for 30 years. Her husband was known to many as the piano player in “the Southampton Swingers,” often playing at the Southampton Senior Center where Lilla served sandwiches and volunteered to take the blood pressure of members in the 1980s and 1990s.
Mrs. Shattuck is survived by a son, Paul “Bucky” Behrmann of Hampton Bays; and two daughters, Claudia M. Gerber and Audrey B. Noonan of San Diego; four grandchildren, Leif Behrmann, Leah Gerber Sabo, Jared Gerber and Ian Noonan; and four great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her Shattuck family members including sons Charles and Lewis Shattuck II; grandchildren Kathy, Joann, and Lewis Shattuck III and Betsy O’Grady; and eight great-grandchildren.
Interment was December 8 at Calverton National Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary’s Episcopal Church of Hampton Bays, where she was a faithful member. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Connell Funeral Home in Southampton.
