Lillian Eleanor Larson King of Southampton died on March 22 at the Hamptons Care Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, after a brief illness. She was 85.
Born June 15, 1923, in Richmond Hill, New York, she was the only child of Lillian M. (née Willumsen) and Elmer C. Larson. Known as “Ellie” to her many friends, she moved with her family to Southampton, where she grew up and graduated from Southampton High School, class of 1941. She worked for New York Telephone Company, retiring in 1985 after more than 30 years of service.
An accomplished and talented musician and vocalist, she will be remembered, survivors said, for playing the vibraphone and marimba, piano and tympani. She performed with several local music groups, at one time was a member of the Robert Shaw Chorale, and was a lifelong member of Saint John’s Episcopal Church, where she sang in the church choir.
She is survived by a son, Lars E. King and his wife Peggy, and two grandsons, Lars J. King and Ian M. King, all of Southampton.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 26, at 1 p.m. at Saint John’s Episcopal Church in Southampton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Human Resources of the Hamptons, 168 Hill Street, Southampton, NY 11968, or Maryhaven, 127 West Main Street, Riverhead, NY 11901 would be appreciated by the family.
