Live in Today

People who don’t vote are losing out. We know that, but people who only vote in federal and state elections are losing out, too. Big time.

This is 2023, and a Southampton Town election is happening in November. For all the media talk of 2024, let’s take a minute to concentrate on the present.

Why? Because this local election directly impacts our personal interests, how we live every day: police protection, property taxes, water quality, traffic, main street business, beaches, parks, roads, zoning, airport noise, and so on.

Reason enough to vote this year, right? If we ignore these street-level Southampton issues to focus on election tampering in Georgia or Supreme Court ethics or congressional maneuvering, we’re the losers. We’re passing on the most immediate matters for ourselves and our families.

Looking at this 2023 town election, the Southampton Democrats have put together an outstanding ticket: Westhampton Beach Mayor Maria Moore for supervisor, Bill Pell and Michael Anthony Iasilli for Town Council, David Glazer for tax receiver, John Ortiz for town justice, and our fine slate of Trustee candidates: Matt Parsons, Margaret Friedlander, Joe McLoughlin, Rainbow Chavis and Dan Van Arsdale.

So let’s live in today instead of tomorrow, in Southampton instead of Washington or Albany, and vote this year on this year’s issues and candidates. Please join me in voting Democratic on November 7.
