Honor To Serve

On June 25, Independence Party voters will have the opportunity to cast a vote in a primary for the office of receiver of taxes. I am writing today as the designated candidate of the Independence Party to ask for your vote.

I have been serving as the tax receiver for the past 12 years and have been working hard on behalf of town taxpayers to run an efficient office and maintain a consistent budget.

When I took over in 2007, the office had a full-time staff of seven, which I have been able to reduce to three without sacrificing the high level of service that property owners expect and deserve. I am very proud to have achieved 11 perfect audits from the county comptroller, as well as the town’s independent auditors, and am currently working on number 12!

In addition to my work with the town, I am a very active volunteer within the community. Currently, I serve as the president of the Board of Directors for SYS Recreation Center, treasurer of the Water Mill Community Club, past president of Southampton Rotary, and member of the Southampton Elks Club and the Southampton Village Combined Veterans Organization.

It is incredibly important for me to give back to our community, where I live and work. Prior to being elected tax receiver, I spent 15 years in the banking and finance industries, accumulating extensive management experience. I am a 1986 graduate of Southampton High School and graduated cum laude from both Providence College (Bachelor of Science degree in finance) and Fordham University (Master of Business Administration in finance).

It is an honor to serve the taxpayers of Southampton as receiver of taxes, and I look forward to continuing in this position, with your help. Please vote for me in the primary on June 25.

Theresa A. Kiernan Southampton Town Receiver of Taxes
