Work Very Hard

In just under two years, Southampton Village Mayor Michael Irving has hit the ground running and vastly improved our quality of life and the environment.

We are the first village on Long Island to ban the use of gas-powered leaf blowers in the summer, reducing noise, carbon and particulate matter release so harmful to us all. Our mayor’s collaborative approach with town and state governments for grant money, along with private partnership funding, has led to the preservation of 3 acres of open space directly on Lake Agawam, brought about a series of beautiful rain gardens and plantings, and the installation of nearly 50 catch basins that filter contaminated water runoff. These creative approaches to funding took most of the burden off you—the taxpayer.

New home construction now requires updated (I/A) systems reducing nitrogen by up to 80 percent—a damaging substance that has overtaken our water bodies—and the village continues to lead by example by installing an I/A system at the municipal restroom by Lake Agawam, as well as going electric with leaf blower use, among others.

Please go and see the beautiful preserved open space and rain gardens for yourself on Pond Lane. Then go to the beach and be reminded of our newly formed Ocean Beach Rescue Team that will serve our residents and visitors alike as we move into the summer.

While some like to handshake and over-promise, our mayor continues to work very hard with the Village Board, and other partners throughout the community, and do the right thing.

Joe McLoughlin deserves your vote too, as he has already demonstrated his commitment to our village by attending virtually all board meetings for the last two years and being an active Planning Commission member. His support of the mayor and Trustee Kimberly Allan in developing a strategic approach to Community Preservation Fund acquisitions helped lead to the acquisition of 3 acres on Lake Agawam. He has a deep grasp of the array of issues facing us and knows how to collaborate.

Let’s continue to support Mayor Michael Irving, and Joe McLoughlin for trustee, on June 21.
