At the regular meeting of its board of directors, Suffolk Bancorp declared a regular quarterly dividend of 22 cents per share of common stock payable on October 1 to all shareholders of record as of September 15.
September is National Guide Dog Month, and PETCO stores nationwide are celebrating by teaming up with Natural Balance Pet Foods to raise $1 million for guide dog organizations across the country.
Hampton Bays PETCO customers will be asked to make a contribution at the register by either rounding up their purchase amount or making a donation of $1, $5, $10 or $20. In addition, $1 of any $25 purchase or greater of bags of Natural Balance dog food featuring Nicolette Sheridan’s photo will also go to funding guide dog training and support.
It takes more than two years for a potential guide dog puppy to learn, practice and train for the day when it graduates as a certified guide dog. For the first 18 to 20 months, a puppy is raised with a trainer until it is given to a guide dog school for four to six months of formal training work with a harness. For the last month, the dog is matched with a blind person, and they train together at the facility.
“The facts around legal blindness are compelling: every seven minutes someone in America becomes blind or visually impaired. Additionally, recent statistics show that 13 percent of our military return from war with eye injuries,” Elisabeth Charles, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for PETCO, said in a press release. “Guide dogs are given to the visually impaired for free, yet it costs over $40,000 to train a guide dog team,” she added.
One hundred percent of the proceeds from PETCOs fund-raising activities will be donated to several participating guide dog facilities, including the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind, Freedom Guide Dogs for the Blind Inc., The Seeing Eye Inc. Guiding Eyes for the Blind, and Leader Dogs for the Blind, to name a few.

Southampton and Montauk native Helen Ficalora opened her fifth jewelry store in Bridgehampton a few weeks ago. She officially celebrated with a grand opening on August 21.
Guests were treated to canapés by Pierre’s while they tried on jewelry, took photos and shared stories about their Helen Ficalora jewelry.
A customer shared a story of how she purchased a Helen Ficalora necklace for her mother with all the grandchildren’s initials. Over the next few years the family added to the necklace and when her mother died, all of the charms were given to each family member, which served as a remembrance of their mother and grandmother.
Ficalora’s signature charm and pendant necklaces have been worn by celebrities Michael J. Fox, Kelly Bensimon, and Edie Falco.

Karen A. Langone, DPM, a sports medicine podiatrist in private practice in Southampton, was elected president of the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine at the annual meeting held earlier this year in Seattle, Washington.

He also has extensive experience as corporate counsel, primarily in not-for-profit and regulatory environments; as an education lawyer, both as school district and parent/child counsel; and as labor and employment counsel before administrative tribunals and before the federal and state courts of New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts. In addition, he has served a number of employers as chief negotiator in the facilitation of their collective bargaining agreements.
Mr. Bahrenburg received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Hartford in 1969 and a master in secondary education from Hofstra University in 1970. He earned a Juris Doctorate from Touro Law School in 1982, where he was recognized as the outstanding graduate and served as editor-in-chief of the Law Review.
