Local boys tennis players competed in the Division IV tennis tournament, which began Saturday at William Floyd High School.
Leading the doubles tournament with the No. 1 seed was Westhampton Beach standouts Bobby Stabile and Giancarlo Volpe. Stabile, a senior, and Volpe, a junior, won the Division IV tournament last year, placed second in Suffolk County and made it all the way to the state quarterfinals.
All three other Hurricanes doubles teams — consisting of juniors Sandro Imundi and Matt Moran, junior Reid Groth and sophomore Brady Schultz and sophomore Bryce Groth and freshman Manny Gomez — also qualified for a spot in the bracket. Westhampton Beach senior Theo Grellet-Aumont competed in the singles tournament.
Hampton Bays also had representation. Seniors Santiago Agudelo and Dylan Foley, and freshman Jaime DePalma competed in the singles tournament, and juniors Chris Clinton and Kevin Saa Pacheco battled at doubles.
Southampton senior Jax Gassner earned a spot in the singles bracket, while senior Beckham LaRose and junior Sam Conklin took part in the doubles tournament.
East Hampton had all three singles players qualify, which included seniors Henry Cooper and Miguel Garcia, and Cooper’s younger brother Henry, a sophomore. Brothers Cameron Mitchell, a senior, and Kiefer Mitchell, a junior; junior Cole “C.J.” Baumrind and sophomore Griffin Beckmann; and junior Carlos Quintana and freshman Marcus Wechsler all competed at doubles.
