Peter C. Daub, a longtime resident of Southampton and New York City, died on February 8 at Shady Grove Hospital in Rockville, Maryland. He was 83.

One of the first Fulbright Scholars from Austria, he studied at the University of Pittsburgh.

He arrived in the United States in 1953 aboard the SS Andrea Doria. He pursued a career in the European steel and metals import/export business, which involved travel throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia. He met and married his wife of 25 years, Helen C. Daub, in New York City in 1956.

An active member of the Southampton Association, the Meadow Club and the Southampton Bathing Corporation, he also served as president of the Southampton Pistol & Rifle Club. In addition, he was a member of the Kane Lodge in New York City.

Family members said that Mr. Daub will be remembered for his love of nature, gardening, field sports, travel, skiing and tennis.

He is survived by two daughters, Christina C. Daub of Maryland and Elisabeth C. Daub of New York City; a brother, Hans Daub and his wife Barbara of Germany; and three grandsons who lovingly called him “Opa,” Wyatt, Linus and Luke Dentel. He was predeceased by his wife in 1982.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 26, at the Institute for Spiritual Development Church, 5419 Sherier Place Northwest, in Washington, D.C. His ashes will be scattered in a private ceremony in Southampton this summer.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Arbor Day Foundation, “Trees in Memory” Program, 100 Arbor Avenue, Nebraska City, NE 68410 or to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018 would be greatly appreciated by the family.
