Lost Its Way

Lost Its WayThe Southampton Town Board’s decision to ban food trucks from visiting farms and wineries is wrong on many levels [“Southampton Town Board Rejects Food Trucks At Farm Stands, Though Not Unanimously,” 27east.com, August 14].

In the first place, town government should not be involved in picking sides between businesses that may be in competition with one another. Competition is a good thing and spurs innovation. One must ask why town officials would choose to support established restaurants over farms and wineries. Why would they do such a thing? What’s in it for them?

For the town to claim that residential neighborhoods need to be protected from food smells is absurd. Why not ban all residential outdoor grilling? I don’t like the smell of my neighbor’s burgers three times a week!

The Nanny State is upon us. Government has lost its mind and its way.
