Louis F. Salivar Jr. Dies At 81

Louis F. Salivar Jr.

Louis F. Salivar Jr. of Hampton Bays died at his home on Sunday, July 3. He was to turn 82 on July 12.

Mr. Salivar, known as Louie, was born in Manhattan to Elizabeth and Louis Salivar Sr., and as a youth, was an excellent gymnast who trained at Sokol Hall on the Upper East Side. He lived in the city until 1951 when he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He received an honorable discharge in 1952 and moved to Hampton Bays where he and his late brother Edward opened Eddie’s Floor Covering. He later worked for Sperry in Lake Success and for Grumman. Mr. Salivar was also a former member of the Hampton Bays Fire Department.

He is survived by his four nieces, Bonnie Loetscher and her husband Robert of Hampton Bays, Sharon Jankowski and her husband Theodore of Hampton Bays and Florida, Nancy Chiarmonte and her husband Benjamin, and Deborah Salivar-Leimgruber and her husband Rolf; and several grand nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Louise Sarisky, William and Edward Salivar; and niece, Elizabeth Bennett.

A private cremation was held at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Center Moriches. His ashes will be interred in Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Cemetery in Southampton at a later date.
