John Leonard is an admirable man with many qualities that would benefit the Town of Southampton. He is loyal, dedicated and hardworking to his goals, both for the town and as an attorney.
I personally have seen John take these characteristics into his role with the East End Regional Intervention Court. As part of the EERIC, John advocates for defendants who are brought into the program with either illicit substance- or alcohol-related problems. He is the voice for those participating in the program to help get them on the path of sobriety and a better life.
EERIC consists of four East End judges, one assistant district attorney and one regional coordinator, along with John. The bi-weekly meetings consist of conferencing cases and discussing resources and outlets for those with addiction problems. When something arises that creates a potential EERIC contract violation with a participant, John steps in to advocate keeping the participant in the program and getting them back on track. He makes arguments and works with the judges, ADA and coordinator to keep the participant in the program instead of having the participant face punitive consequences.
John is dedicated to helping those with addiction problems and leading them through EERIC to live a healthy, sober life. He is a wonderful support system for those who are at one of the lowest points in their life to see their true potential and get the help and resources they need. He is empathetic and truly cares about each and every individual who signs a contract for EERIC.
As an attorney who has brought clients into the EERIC program, having John there provides the participants comfort and ease to know there is another attorney there to push them to succeed and graduate. I believe these characteristics and qualities John brings to EERIC are those he can bring to the Town of Southampton.
John cares about people individually while also wanting to do what is best for the town as a whole. He is dedicated and works toward solutions instead of giving into the problems. He sees the bigger picture and how it can truly benefit the residents of this town.
