Lynn Dart Wesnofske
Lynn Dart Wesnofske of Bridgehampton died of complications from pneumonia at Stony Brook University Hospital on December 26. She was 71.
Born Lynn Ainsworth Dart on January 28, 1941, in Mount Kisco, she was the daughter of Donald D. Dart and Lois Urion. She married Raymond Wesnofske of Bridgehampton in 1964 and had one son, Christopher, of New York City, both of whom survive her.
She was educated at St. Margaret’s School in Waterbury, Connecticut, and at Westchester Community College. Before marrying, she had worked as a medical laboratory technician at Southampton Hospital and afterward founded a Bridgehampton-based mailing and word processing business in the 1970s called Wordtech.
She followed several sporting pursuits including showing dogs, equestrian riding, and racing standardbred horses.
An active civic person, she gave her time, resources and energy to many charitable and community causes, the most enduring of which were found in the Community House Association and the Bridgehampton Village Improvement Society, for which she served as an officer and director. She was committed to their fundraising and communications for many years. For the BVIS, she long worked to maintain the charm of Bridgehampton hamlet. She was also active in the founding of Peconic Landing, a life care community in Greenport.
With a special talent for engaging people and remembering faces, community events and local history, she was a willing host for civic fundraising events at her home, Ocean View Farm, for organizations such as the Peconic Land Trust. She was also an active member of the Devon Yacht Club in Amagansett and the Pelican Isle Yacht Club in Naples, Florida.
Besides her husband Raymond and son Chris, she is survived by a sister, Joan Dart Ogren of Connecticut, to whom she was especially dedicated, and her in-laws, Teresa and James Drew of Hampton Bays, Clyde and Victoria Wesnofske and Edward Wesnofske of Bridgehampton.
Visitation was held on December 28 at the O’Connell Funeral Home in Southampton. A funeral service was held on December 29 at the First Presbyterian Church in Southampton. Cremation followed.
