On Sunday, hundreds of pickup trucks and cars decked out in full Trump regalia are expected to parade through the East End participating in an event called, MAGA-GRAS IV.
Organized by ardent supporter of President Donald Trump Shawn Farash, who calls himself “Captain Deplorable,” the parade follows on the heels of similar outings held in varied locations across Long Island.
On Thursday afternoon, he hosted a “MINI-Gras” that saw a procession travel from the Sunrise Mall to the Bellmore train station to meet up with the Bellmore Patriots, who assemble there every day. Earlier Thursday, he held another short parade to Shirley for a rally. Those came on the heels of a massive parade in Manhattan on October 6.
Sunday’s parade will leave the Seaford train station in Nassau County at 10 a.m. and make its way along State Route 27 to Montauk.
“As always, we will remain peaceful and respectful even when faced with potential counter protesters” Mr. Farash’s event posting on Facebook states. “The Long Island Loud Majority is here, and is here to stay.”
Locally, no matter who a motorist supports, weekend traffic continues to be a nightmare of congestion and crawl.
Police in both Southampton and East Hampton towns say they’re prepared for added vehicles to already-packed roadways. East Hampton Town Police Chief Michael Sarlo said his department will coordinate with Suffolk County counterparts and New York State Police.
Southampton Town Police Chief Steven Skrynecki echoed his colleague’s comments, noting, “So far they have not been a problem group. They will obviously impact traffic, however. We will be coordinating with SCPD, State Police, and East End Departments to monitor the motorcade.”
A similar parade to the North Fork on September 20 drew a smattering of opponents in counter-protest along the route and at its denouement in Greenport. The caravan was peaceful. Aside from the disruption to traffic flow, and businesses who saw end of summer customers turned away by the impassable roads, there were no incidents reported.
