Magical Thinking

Magical ThinkingIt appears that 2019 is the Year of Magical Thinking for the East Quogue Village Exploratory Committee.

Wishing for something and telling oneself and an entire community that it will happen doesn’t make it a reality.

Magical thinking is extolling the value of creating another layer of government and promising no increase in taxes. Another tax bill, in any amount, is an increase. Fairy-tale.

Magical thinking is assuring the East Quogue community that no additional students will enter the school system. Neither the local public school nor this committee can assure the community that the school population will not ever increase, especially when Discovery Land builds 130 “seasonal” homes. Dreamlike.

Magical thinking, yet again, is promising the voting population that any administrative services will be provided on a volunteer basis much like PAL coaches or Scout leader positions. If the administrators of a newly formed village plan to manage in the same vein as a coach or Scout leader who do so on a seasonal basis, we should all hope we are dreaming. Nightmare.

Remember, magic is sleight of hand. If you watch the magician closely, you will see his skillful deception. Keep watching closely. Vote “no” to the village incorporation to truly protect East Quogue.
