Makes No Sense

To Pine Barrens Commission members: I have lived on Lewis Road in East Quogue for 50 years! Regarding the Lewis Road planned residential district, the idea of building this totally inappropriate development is a travesty. To ignore the science begs of an almost criminal enterprise. A development of this size and scope makes no sense. (A golf course? Underground garage? Fuel storage?)

This community has been against this for more than nine years. Outsiders, with unlimited resources, have been relentless in their pursuit of a project that guarantees a negative impact on our community and the planet.

That being said, if it does go forward because of a few corrupt-minded commissioners who have lost their moral compass, you must demand that it be totally self-contained — with its own police force, ambulance service, fire department and schools. (The argument that this is only a resort area with no children is absurd and legally implausible.) The local taxpayers should not have to pay for these services, since the continuation of volunteer services will not be adequate to service such an enormous development.

Be smart. Do what is right. East Quogue is no place for such a massive undertaking. Money cannot replace what will no doubt be looked upon as the murder of a beautiful piece of the planet and the destruction of an entire community, all for the mighty dollar.
