New York State Police and a Southampton Village Police K-9 unit were called to the Shinnecock Nation Territory on July 22 at about 1 a.m. with a report of an armed “home invasion” at a residence.
When they arrived at the home, police found one man with injuries to his face from being struck by a man who had fled the scene on foot.
State Police said that after a search of the surrounding area, Arnay Terry, 49, of Southampton was found lying on the ground in thick bushes not far from the home where the assault had taken place.
A handgun was found on the ground nearby, and police confirmed that a gunshot had been fired in the residence during the initial altercation with the victim but that nobody was hit with a bullet.
Terry has been charged with four felonies: assault in the second degree, for intending to cause physical harm with a weapon; criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, for illegally possessing a loaded firearm; reckless endangerment in the first degree and menacing in the second degree, as well as one misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child.
He was taken into custody and turned over to Southampton Town Police to be held for arraignment in Southampton Town Justice Court. He was released the following day on his own recognizance to appear in court at a later date.
